BNG | Small & Medium ISPs
Asteraix's Turnkey Distributed BNG Solution powered by AsterNOS-VPP(Open Router OS Powered by SONiC & VPP) is specifically designed for small and medium Internet Service Providers (ISPs) seeking a cost-effective, scalable alternative to traditional Broadband Network Gateway (BNG) infrastructure. Asteraix delivers a truly integrated, ready-to-deploy package optimized for operators serving 500-3,000 subscribers per location.
Traditional BNG Architecture

BNG authenticates subscribers, manages their IP sessions, enforces QoS policies, and routes traffic between their connections and the core network.
OLT at the head end connects to a single feeder fiber.
Fiber runs to a passive optical splitter (non-powered).
ODN relays the signal to multiple ONUs.
ONU provides connectivity to end subscribers (home/business).
Asteraix BNG Architecture Overview

Access Arch. Comparison:
Traditional BNG vs. BNG powered by AsterNOS-VPP

Cost-effective DPU+Switch architecture in 1RU pizza box, lower power consumption, and compact server rack implementation.
Powered by SONiC and VPP, a combination of best practice open-source NOS with high-performance access control, NATTING and HQoS.
Unified deployment and operation by Controller from cloud or on-premise, optimized for Wi-Fi access.
XGSPON OLT Stick support as well as 100G Ethernet, suitable for small-to-medium scale access scenarios.
Standalone AAA/BSS/MGMT vs. Controller-Integrated

Rapid Service Provisioning & ZTP deployment by centrally managing OLT stick, AP, switch, router, and BNG with configuration automatically generated and pushed based on pre-defined network topology.
Unified, multi-dimensional monitoring view with real-time visibility into network-wide traffic, device health, and downstream subscriber or terminal status.
Advanced operations with an integrated alarm system and webhook support, allowing external notification through platforms such as WeChat and Slack for events including power, fan, and interface link failures.
Built-in AAA, DHCP server with Multi-Tenant Subscriber Management, supporting role-based IP assignment, OAuth 2.0 portal authentication, and flexible user and administrator control.
